Blog in ESL class

English educators and learners now are taking advantage of technology-enhanced language class. Owing to the flexibility and accessibility of computer, especially internet connections, they can achieve more than what they did in the traditional class. Therefore the internet-based educational theories and practical toos take on greater significance . My reflections on it are as follows:

Internet provides richer and deeper means to realizing a variety of linguistic and affective outcomes. when people are in the internet-based language class, they can freely choose such efficent ways as discussion forum, blogs and wikis to improve their languane proficiency . For example, students and teachers can create their own English blogs and post their personal opinions. It is a more free form of reflection, therefore people can freely and creatively express their ideas and pay comments on the recent events. Usually strong curiosity and discussions are sparked when people responding to the other’s statements on blogs. If their interest is aroused then they can find more sources to explore independently. It is a powerful and enjoyable voyage in persuit of knowledge. After rounds of discussions, people can greatly improve both thinking and learning abilities. What’s more, when all people are engaged in blogging, teachers and students can have a more comfortable space to express. To a certain extent, it is beneficial to their social relationship. Peers enjoy more opportunities to make new friends across the world or within the class. The negative affective factors in teaching-learning process are easily erased. They are likely to become good friends.

Since blogs are mostly student-driven, teachers need some proper guidance. The topics and the ways of discussion should be under due supervision. In addition, more face-to-face class or social activities should be organized to link such virtual bloggers together. No matter how heavily we rely on the virtual space we have to face the realities. Such E- generation groups need more human warmth. Blog is meant to provide a richer source of information and a mode of social reaction, but it finally is our human beings that count.
